It’s amazing how each and every one of us has our own journey—our own pain, shame, wonder, joy, and love. Truly, each of us could probably write our own story!
And we often transcend our ordinary, mundane and/or painful circumstances simply by listening to and learning from someone else who has walked in similar shoes to ours, and who has come through the ashes to rise as a powerful phoenix—a mentor of sorts!

was written before, during, and after my divorce in 2000. I had gained nearly 80 pounds during my first pregnancy in 1995, but had not lost it all before my second pregnancy in 1996, was written after I’d lost all my extra weight, dealt with much of my childhood pain, and faced my unjustified shame. Mid-way through writing , my husband and I separated. I put the book on hold while trying to pick up the pieces of my life and become an amazing single mother to my two small daughters. However, within a year or two, I realized that I couldn’t wait any longer; I had left my daughters’ father to become my “own woman”—to pursue my own dream and to have my own voice. To stay as a victim, blaming him for my new-found lack of abundance, time, and faith was pointless.
